We left at 8:30 am taking the Cuenca – Molleturo road. After approx. 40 minutes of travel, we arrived at Cajas National Park. The box area has 232 lakes. It is 35 kilometers away (north) of Cuenca. It has a variety of vegetation and fauna. It contains vestiges of the royal road of Inca. Two hundred of its archaeological ruins have been recovered. The park covers an area of ​​approximately 29,000 hectares and has an altitude of approximately 2700 to 4300 m.

First we will visit Llaviuco, where we can observe many types of birds, reptiles and different types of flora such as: Chuquirahua, Romerillo, Rubra, Chochoandino and Lencetilla de páramo.

Then we will go up to the highest point called “Tres Cruces” where we can observe different points of the Cajas National Park, this is an appropriate place to take excellent and original photos of the park, then, we go to Lake Chica Ilincocha, where we will start the trekking. Continuing with our route, we will find the first polylepis forest that is a wonderful place. It is unique in the world and has magic within this special forest. we had lunch.

We continue walking and then we find the second and largest polylepis forest that has an underground river with clean water used for drinking.

We arrived at the Barros and Taquihurcu lakes, and then we went down to the mountain to finish our trekking. Later, we go to the restaurant to eat trout, the typical fish of the area. Then we return to Cuenca and we will leave them at the hotel at around 4pm.
