Yasuní Kichwa Ecolodge is located in the depths of the Amazon rainforest, on the banks of the Napo River, within the Yasuní National Park. In 1989 UNESCO declared the park a Bio-reserve and Cultural Heritage site. Journey from Quito through the eastern Andes to the jungle town of Coca, travel two hours on a motorized boat to reach the Yasuní Kichwa Ecolodge.

The lodge features 12 ample, comfortable cabins with a maximum capacity of 36 guests. All cabins include 24-hour electricity and plenty of outlets for recharging batteries, ample hot water, ventilation, a safe deposit box, private bathroom and a relaxing hammock on deck to enjoy the views of our beautiful gardens.

Itinerary

Day 1

Trip starts from the town of Coca in comfortable motor operated canoes. Canoe trip takes about 2-hours and a box lunch is provided. During the navigation you will see herons, kingfishers, terns and other shore birds and beautiful landscapes. When visitors arrive they are warmly welcomed with a traditional drink and lunch at the Ecolodge. After settling in to the cabins, there is a short walk in the afternoon down to the banks of the Napo River to enjoy a beautiful sunset on the beaches and islands. Dinner served at the lodge.

Day 2

After breakfast an early departure to board the boat the amazing Parrot Clay Lick bringing visitors face to face with approximately 11 species of parrots, parrotlets and macaws. Depending upon the season, weather conditions and general good luck, this activity is usually successful. Visit the Interpretation Center “Kuri Muyu” handled by the women of the community. Learn about the Kichwa culture, crafts, traditions, and use of natural resources directly to people of the community. Return to ecolodge for lunch.

Walk for an hour to climb the observation tower of 35 meters where you are likely to see a variety of birds, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, toucans, parrots and sloths.

Return to hotel in motorized canoe for dinner.

Day 3

After breakfast visit the local community projects, talk about the worldview of Kichwa traditional medicine, and walk in the Mama Cuna road. An excellent opportunity to see more wildlife, ceiba trees, strangler, bamboo cane, vines, shrubs endemic to Yasuní National Park.

Afternoon walk to Añangu stream and embark on small canoes to head down river to a spectacular adventure through the forest with opportunities to see alligators, nightlife and above all, listen to the sounds of nature at its purest.

Return to ecolodge in motorized canoes for a traditional typical dinner.

Day 4

Early morning wakeup at 4:30am to share one of the ancient customs of the Kichwa culture, making wayusa to energize the body and listen to the Kichwa songs, and think about the important issues in a peaceful and unique way. Return for breakfast, before taking a motorized canoe trip back to the city of Coca.

Optional Stay

5 days or longer offers the traveller an opportunity to live a unique experience navigating the Napo River on an eco-catamaran to see tropical birds, such as orioles, caciques, parrots, and several species of herons, carcaras, doves, anis, terns and other species of primates. Water sports such as tubing, or regatta on the Napo River, or simply relax and unwind.
